Play as a cab driver during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Thomas "Tommy" Angelo, who to survive finds himself joining the criminal syndicate that rules over Lost Heaven's Little Italy, the Salieri family.
Throughout the game, the main quest of which takes about 12 hours, the story is interspersed with interludes, reminding us that the adventure is experienced through the prism of the main character's narration. A process used in literature and cinema, generally to create a certain empathy, a closeness with the storyteller. Chapter by chapter, the atypical journey of Tommy, climbing one by one the ranks of the Mafia, until he becomes essential for the Don.
In urban open-world games, the real star is the city and its surroundings. The Lost Heaven map, very much inspired by Chicago. It's like revisiting the city of your childhood: your old neighbors have moved a few blocks away, some buildings have been replaced by others, the downtown area has new businesses, others have closed.
On the other hand, even though it's not historically wrong, the city has had almost all its traffic lights removed. The advantage of such a choice is obviously that traffic flows more smoothly from one goal to the next. But taking away so much is very confusing. The result is that we do watch our speed if we have chosen the simulation for the driving rules, but at no time are we bothered by a red light.
We can feel the small nods to the cinema of Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola.
The characters have been worked in-depth, their secret wounds are exposed, which better explains the ins and outs of the various plots during the adventure. New cinematics with Don Morello and his brother Sergio allows setting the context of the gang war.
As far as the soundtrack is concerned, it is very well done, and concerning the compositions as well as the reorchestrations, there is no false note.
In any case, as far as sound is concerned, there is nothing to complain about.
"It is said that what is called the spirit of an era is something that you cannot return to. If this spirit is dissipating, then the world is coming to an end. Even if we want to return to the spirit of 100 years ago, it is not possible. So we have to make the most of each generation. ". So, it is a game to be taken as a new experience of this generation, it is not perfect but it has enough qualities to guarantee long hours of fun for the fans of the genre.
